This page is to help anyone who may be new to collecting miniatures or doesn't understand some of the terms used in this site.
Miniatures are cast in molds. There's at least two different ways this is done, and I'm not going to go into anything that specific since I don't do it myself. However, no matter what method is used, there is two halves to the mold.
Mold - A mold (or I believe it's also spelled mould for UK English) is a 2 part device usually made of a rubber material in the case of miniatures. They're used and have been used for all kinds of things other than miniatures for centuries - pottery, glass figurines, decorations on cakes, metal parts for machines, etc. In miniatures, the original sculpture has a 2 part mold made around it so it can be mass produced. If you'd like to see the process in pictures, this shows you one way.
